WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team continued their season opening homestand by hosting East Central on Thursday, November 6. The Wolves used a furious second half to overcome a slow first half, but ultimately dropped the match against the Warriors, 73-62.
The Wolves opened the first half with an 11-6 scoring run highlighted by a Dylan Creggett (DeSoto, Texas) three and layup to take a lead at that margin with 15:40 left on the clock. The Warriors then responded with a 13-1 scoring run to take a 19-12 lead over the Wolves with 9:50 remaining. The teams then matched scoring outputs with nine points each as the Warriors lead stood at 28-21 with 5:46 left to play in the first half. The Warriors then closed out the half with a 12-6 scoring run to push their lead to 40-27 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.
The Wolves opened the second half with a 10-2 scoring run capped off by a LeBron Deal (Monroe, Louisiana) layup to cut the lead down to 42-37 with 15:42 left to play. The Wolves then used a quick 6-0 scoring run ended with a layup by Creggett to take a 43-42 lead with 13:28 left on the clock. However, the Warriors responded with a 16-8 scoring run to take a 58-51 lead with 8:39 remaining in the second half. The Warriors then used an 11-7 scoring run to push their lead to 69-58 with 3:20 left in the game. The teams then closed out the game adding four points as the Warriors sealed the 73-62 win over the Wolves.
LeBron Deal led the way for the Wolves as he scored 19 points with three rebounds, four assists, and three steals while Tyrell Bowles (Springdale, Maryland) recorded his second-straight double-double performance with 16 points and a game-leading 12 rebounds along with three assists and one block. Dylan Creggett added 12 points with five assists and three rebounds.
Moustapha Salekh (Ngekoh, Senegal) had five points while Tristian Lucas (Pearl) and Caleb Crozier (Yazoo City) had four points each with Jamei McGhee (Heidelberg) adding two points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.
Co-Lin is now 2-1 overall and will return to action hosting Delgado on Friday, November 7. Tip-off between the Dolphins and the Wolves is set for 6 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
