WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team returned from winter break and hosted Florida Coastal Prep for their final non-conference game of the season. The Wolves led wire-to-wire as they beat the Spartans, 102-62.
The Wolves got off to a quick start as Tyrell Bowles (Springdale, MD) and Moustapha Salekh (Ngekoh, Senegal) hit back-to-back layups to take a 4-0 lead while the Spartans then hit a jump shot to make it 4-2, which was the closest scoring margin for the remainder of the game with 18:27 left in the first half. The Wolves then went on a 15-5 scoring run pushing their lead to 19-7 with 12:17 on the clock. The Wolves continued to flex their muscles as they went on a 16-13 scoring run making their lead, 35-20, with 4:06 remaining in the half. The Wolves then closed out the first half with a 12-3 scoring run pushing their led to 47-23 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.
The Wolves carried their momentum in the second half as they opened with a 20-7 scoring run extending their lead to 67-30 with 14:43 remaining. The scoring onslaught continued for the Wolves as they went on a 13-12 scoring run pushing their lead to 80-42 after a layup by Stevent Watkins (Ridgeland) with 9:07 left to play. The Wolves then closed out the game with a 22-20 scoring run to secure the 102-62 victory over the Spartans.
The Wolves had five players in double-digit scoring figures as Tyrell Bowles led the way with 15 points while narrowly missing a double-double performance with a game-leading eight rebounds along with two assists, two steals, and one block. Caleb Crozier (Yazoo City) had 14 points with two rebounds, two assists, one block, and one steal while Stevent Watkins had 12 points with three rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Morris Hammond (Ridgeland) had 11 points with three rebounds one assist, one steal, and one block while Dylan Creggett had 10 points with five rebounds, five assists, and one steal.
Tristian Lucas (Pearl) had nine points, Zach Thompson (Hattiesburg) had eight points, Jackson Payne (Madison) had seven points, while Moustapha Salekh had six points. Koie Williams (Philadelphia) had five points, LeBron Deal (Monroe, LA) had three points, and Jamichael Green (Rolling Fork) had two points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.
Co-Lin improves to 7-6 overall and will return to action hosting Mississippi Delta on Monday, January 12 for their MACCC opener. Tip-off between the Wolves and the Trojans is set for 7:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
