Wolves Blast Generals in Home Opener

WESSON – After back-to-back road games to start the season, the Co-Lin Men's Soccer team played host to LSU-Alexandria for their home opener on Friday, September 13. The Wolves dominated the Generals en route to a 4-1 win.

"I was very happy with the reaction from the boys after going down a goal early in the match and their response to that was excellent," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "We looked like a threat to score every time we went forward and looked like we had multiple ways to score during those times which was very promising to see."

The Generals started the game off with a quick goal as they scored just 40 seconds into the match to put the Wolves behind 1-0. However, the Wolves responded in short order tying the match at 1-1 as Yohan Bedoya (Bogota, Colombia) beat the Generals keeper with an assist from Alvaro De La Torre (A Coruna, Spain) in the eighth minute. Bedoya then factored into the second goal of the match for the Wolves in the 14th minute getting an assist as Francisco Miquel (Bogota, Colombia) blasted the ball past the Generals keeper to take a 2-1 lead.

That score held until the 33rd minute when Hudson McIntyre (Brandon) crossed the ball through the box and found the head of Aden Lowry who put the ball between the Generals keeper and the goalpost increasing the lead to 3-1. The Wolves then added a fourth goal in the first half as Lucas Giacomini (Newcastle, England) headed the ball into the back of the net off a throw-in by Javion Roberts (Jackson) in the 43rd minute.

The second half saw a flurry of scoring chances for the Generals, but Wolves goalkeeper Jaime Duran (Madison) denied chance after chance throughout the half to secure the 4-1 victory. Duran finished with a career high 12 saves on 13 shots on goal faced.

"We rotated through the squad a good bit in the second half and those players came in and saw the result through for us," added Cosgrave. "This was another very impressive performance as we head to conference play this week. I'm excited to see how we do in these upcoming games."

Co-Lin improves to 3-0-0 overall and opens conference play on the road against East Mississippi on Tuesday, September 17. The action between the Wolves and the Lions kicks off on the pitch at Sullivan-Windham Field in Scooba at 7 p.m.
