WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Soccer team opened MACCC play and the home portion of the schedule with a match against Southwest on Tuesday, September 16. The Wolves and Bears tied, 2-2.
The Wolves jumped out to a quick lead as they scored early in the first half. Justin Singleton (Clinton) beat the Bears keeper with an assist from Harrison Willsey (Starkville) to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead in the second minute of the match. That score held despite the Wolves adding a second goal midway through the first half that was disallowed after a foul was called against the Wolves.
In the second half, the Wolves added a second goal in the 63rd minute as Hudson McIntyre blasted a ball from just outside the box to increase the Wolves lead to 2-0. However, the Bears responded as they scored goals in the 65th and 77th minutes to tie the game, 2-2. The Wolves offense then blitzed the Bears with several shots on goal in the final 13 minutes, but could not find a go-ahead goal as the match ended in a 2-2 tie.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jaime Duran (Madison) saved three of five shots on goal faced throughout the match.
Co-Lin is now 2-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in MACCC play and will return to action with a match against East Mississippi on Friday, September 19. Kickoff between the Wolves and the Lions is set for 7 p.m., in Scooba.
